Hazing and Hazing-Like Initiation
As part of the University of Notre Dame’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and values-based campus community, all members of the University have the right to be free from hazing. Hazing and hazing-like initiation undermine our mission as a Catholic research university dedicated to the formation of mind, body, and spirit, and it has no place in student life at Notre Dame. The University strictly prohibits hazing and hazing-like initiation in any form, and every member of the Notre Dame community is expected to uphold standards that promote an environment that respects human dignity and care for others. Reporting
The University encourages students, faculty, and staff to report all incidents of hazing and hazing-like initiation so that the University can take appropriate action to assist the students involved and improve the campus climate. The course of action taken by the University will depend on the facts and circumstances of each report.
Submit an Online Report
When submitting a report via the online reporting form, you will be asked to provide detailed information regarding the incident you are reporting. Information provided through Speak Up is not anonymous.
Speak Up reports are not monitored 24/7. A Notre Dame administrator will review the information you submit within two University business days (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.).
Report to Law Enforcement
Reports can also be filed with the appropriate local police department. If the incident occurred on campus, you may file a report with the Notre Dame Police Department or the St. Joseph County Police Department. Note that police reports will also be shared with the Office of Community Standards and/or the Office of Institutional Equity for review and possible referral to University processes.

Review and Resolution
The university will review all reports of hazing and hazing-like initiation that it receives. Based upon the involved parties and the nature of the allegations, the reviewing units may include, but are not limited to, the Office of Community Standards, the Office of Institutional Equity, the Notre Dame Police Department, and the Student Activities Office.
Alleged violations of this policy will be addressed under applicable policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, the Standards of Conduct and University Conduct Process for alleged violations by students.
Registered Student Group Violations
In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, the University of Notre Dame publicly reports hazing and hazing-like initiation violations involving registered student groups. This report covers incidents that began on January 1, 2025, and will be updated twice a year, as violations occur.
Education
The University provides anti-hazing education and prevention programming for students, faculty, and staff. Education sessions include, but are not limited to bystander intervention training, online education for new undergraduate and graduate students prior to matriculation, general hazing and hazing-like initiation policy and reporting awareness, and strategies for community building for student leaders.
